Youth enterprise programmes can offer a significant contribution to building a more hopeful, prosperous, equitable, and sustainable future for Aotearoa New Zealand.

Background

The Ministry of Youth Development (MYD) – Te Manatū Whakahiato Taiohi established a funding stream dedicated to supporting youth enterprise programmes in 2014. The aim is to support young people (aged 12 to 24) to be better prepared for the future work environment through funding strength-based enterprise education and skills development opportunities and investing in young people’s business potential.

Te Kete Aronui

In 2021, MYD worked in partnership with The King's Trust Aotearoa New Zealand (KTANZ) to figure out what ‘good’ outcomes look like to improve youth entrepreneurship initiatives.

MYD, KTANZ, and Aotearoa New Zealand’s youth enterprise ecosystem, have developed a Youth Enterprise Outcomes Framework- Efficacy, Economy and Equity. KTANZ has worked to develop four resources designed to support providers with building the entrepreneurial capital (skills and thinking) of young people through high quality programmes.
