MYD My Voice Competition Winner Announced

12 June 2020

Congratulations to Kate Seagar, the winner of the MYD My Voice Competition, in collaboration with the Vodafone New Zealand Foundation!

Her entry Textile Waste in Aotearoa uses textile waste to advocate for people to buy New Zealand made goods:

“In 2018 there was 6397 tonnes worth of textile waste in Christchurch. Textiles sent to Wellington’s Southern Landfill have doubled since 2009 and textiles are one of the fastest growing materials dumped in Auckland […] so what can we do as a nation to prevent fast fashion and textile waste? The best thing we can do is to stop supporting brands with no environmental and ethical policies and start shopping locally sourced and made. Or, instead of buying brand new, we can opshop for good quality products at great prices.”

Thank you to all the entrants for sharing their voice, and for all their mahi. We know the judges were impressed by the passion, creativity and ingenuity displayed.
