Round four projects
Sixteen projects, led by territorial authorities around New Zealand, received funding from the fourth funding round.
Auckland City Council - Lovelock Arts Programme
Lovelock Arts programme targets young people from a diverse range of
communities in the Wesley region of Auckland. The programme
will utilise young people’s interest in the creative and cultural arts.
Young people from the area will come together to devise a programme of
youth arts projects and events. In order to do this, the young people
will form specific project teams that will plan, implement and evaluate
their project.
Waitakere City Council - Youth Action 4 Change
Youth Action 4 Change will see a youth worker employed to work within
the new youth facility in central Henderson to create a community
information and support hub. This will be a space supported by the
Waitakere youth services sector and managed by a youth development
worker and young people within the wider youth facility. A core
component of the role will be the establishment and oversight of the
Youth Action 4 Change scholarship.
Kawerau District Council - Kawerau Community Project
The key objective of this project is to develop initiatives to support
young people in the district. The
Council will work with the Youth Council to establish a formal
structure to engage young people in the area. Together they will
develop and deliver activities in response to local need with a focus
on developing capacity building, personal development, leadership and
self esteem.
Rotorua District Council - E Oho - Awaken
E OHO is a partnership project between the Rotorua District Council, Te
Waiariki Purea Trust and the young people of the Fordlands, Koutu and
Western Heights communities. Three
groups of young people will consult with their communities and create
projects to meet identified needs. The young people will
receive direct mentoring through weekly contact with the project mentor
and monthly training workshops with relevant experts. The young
people will attend six training weekends as a large group that will
involve visiting other town and city facilities.
Taupo District Council - Flip Side 24/7
The project aims to provide a comprehensive youth programme, with supervised constructive
activities developed by young people, which will promote learning,
development, participation, interaction and teamwork.
Ruapehu District Council - The Making Connections, Building Strengths, Developing Skills (CBD) Taumarunui Project
The first element of the CBD Project is the continuation of the
existing Youth Forum that will actively participate in the
identification, planning and delivery of projects. The second part of the project is for the
project partner, The Central King Country Youth Link Trust, to partner
with, and support existing agencies in projects already identified and
in an early stage at the moment. Lastly the project seeks to implement
a stocktake of youth services and activities, a youth newspaper
supplement, a Youth One Stop Shop and a Youth expo.
Napier City Council - Ka Hao Te Rangatahi
The Ka Hao te Rangatahi project is a kaupapa Maori based initiative.
The target group is male Maori from Maraenui aged between 12 and 17
years. The programme commences with a noho marae
followed by development of a career/job plan and weekly Mau Rakau
training.
Horowhenua District Council - A Youth Voice in Horowhenua
The project aims to connect Horowhenua school leavers with education,
training and job opportunities. Central to the project is the
appointment of a Community Youth Development worker. As well as working
with the young people in the area to improve access to relevant
information around education, training and employment, the Community
Youth Development Worker will also work with young people to ensure
their participation in designing and sustaining a youth space in the
new libraries to be built in Foxton and Levin.
Wanganui District Council - Underground Project
The Make It Take It project, also funded through the first and third
rounds of the Youth Development Partnership Fund, seeks to place the
development and delivery of projects and events designed to meet the
needs of young people in Wanganui within the youth community. Wanganui
District Council aims, through the project, to establish a training and
employment framework to one aspect of Make It Take It; the Underground
Fashion Show project, and establish the show as a sustainable event
within the Wanganui youth community.
Upper Hutt City Council - Upper Hutt Talent Bank
The Upper Hutt Talent Bank aims to engage youth in entrepreneurship
opportunities by providing guidance with constructive business ideas,
promoting positive youth role models in the community and building
relationships between young people and the business sector.
Porirua City Council - PCC After Hours Youth Support
The first part of the project is aimed at building the capacity of
local youth providers and projects. The second part of the
project is to enable the providers and their services to be focused on
addressing gaps in youth services, particularly those that operate
after hours.
Hutt City Council - Nga Ara Kete
The main focus of this project is to connect with young people to develop pathways
to further education, training or employment. Emphasis will also be on
leadership, participation in community decision making and developing
positive role models for other young people in their community. The
service will involve a team of four youth workers providing activities
for young people creating a safer environment for young people in Hutt
City.
Tasman District Council - Animals People and Rehabilative Training (A PART)
A PART is a ten week youth training and skills development course that
focuses on learning empathy, non-violent behaviour, accountability and
responsibility.
Kaikoura District Council - Youth Skills Kaikoura
The Youth
Skills Kaikoura will allow people from differing backgrounds to come
together and collaborate to create unique and innovative ideas. The
project will run over three stages with results including, a CD of
local music, a website and a series of performances. Group tuition and
workshops will be run in instrument tuition, contemporary music
writing, film/animation/web design, dance, drama, cooking,
art/carving/sculpture/painting, sewing, weaving, photography, sound and
lighting - areas identified by youth in a survey conducted in February
2008.
Hurunui District Council - HYP - Hurunui Youth Project
The Hurunui Youth Project is a set of tools which will be taken to
communities of young people in the Hurunui district. The project
will provide flexible, mobile, youth centred development programmes,
sessions and entertainment for 12-18 year-olds.
Selwyn District Council - Destination Youth Rolleston
The project aims to connect the young people of Rolleston, many of whom
are immigrants with few local connections, through the provision of
dedicated youth staff who will work with Rolleston Primary School at
lunchtimes, attend local networking meetings and develop a programme
for a Friday night Youth Club.
