Elkington Associates Limited
Elkington
Training Ltd are based in the Porirua CBD. They have a strong
affiliation to Ngati Toa Marae at Elsdon. Elkington
Training Ltd focus on delivering NZQA unit standards, improving health
& wellbeing, increasing confidence and personal skills in order to
compete in the current employment market, including conservation and
tourism. They encourage projects that support a clean and
manageable environment. Young people can move onto other training
opportunities offered by this provider including tourism if they are
interested.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports Elkington Training Limited to deliver two New Zealand
Conservation Corps programmes each year. The target group are rangatahi
Maori.

Salvation Army Youth Services (Wellington)
The
Salvation Army Employment Plus provides education, ongoing practical
care and support to assist the less advantaged achieve employment and
develop a career. The training programmes provide a range of quality
education and employment focussed initiatives, which aim to bring about
a sustained change in the life style and attitude for the individual
and community.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports Salvation Army Youth Services (Wellington) to deliver one
programme. This programme is designed to increase confidence and skills
that will enable participants to move into further education, training
or employment. There is a strong element of challenging
recreation as part of the project and localised project work.

Yes
2 Youth Trust looks at how it can support young people to reach their
goals. The main aim is to ensure that young people can build on
personal skills and skills learnt on the programme in order to fully
participate in further education, training or employment.
This provider works closely with Work & Income in order to identify
how it can best meet the needs of local Pasifika young people.
The programme addresses health and wellbeing, fitness and positive involvement in the community.
Participants do research on their cultural background and do
presentations to the local Intermediate School students in order to
practice public speaking. Emphasis is also placed on personal
presentation, completing CV’s and obtaining their driving licence in
order for them to be more able to compete in today’s employment market.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports the Yes 2 Youth Trust to deliver one programme. The
provider target group is Pasifika young people.
The programme focuses on identifying positive work experience opportunities that can lead to permanent employment.

Te Rakau Hua o Te Wao Tapu Trust
Te
Rakau is a theatrical company that delivers 24/7 Social Services to
‘In-Risk’ youth aged 13 to 17. Te Rakau utilises theatre as a
therapeutic medium to assist the youth to break historical cycles,
confront their addictions and focus on their wellness.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development supports Te Rakau by providing
‘Transition Programme funding’ for Rangatahi who are 17 years old and
due for discharge from the Te Rakau theatre for change programme.
Transition is a Programme that focuses on providing youth with life
tools i.e. budgeting, household economics, cooking, work, schooling and
recreation and in particular transition will prepare the youth towards
self sufficiency as the Rangatahi reintegrates back into their given
communities.

Young New Zealanders’ Challenge (previously the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award)
The
Young New Zealanders' Challenge (the “Challenge”) is a voluntary, non
competitive programme of leisure activities for those aged 14 to 25,
designed to offer a personal and individual challenge.
The Challenge introduces young people to exciting, positive,
challenging and enjoyable things to do in their free time. It
encourages friendships amongst those taking part, and across the
generations with adults who give up time to share skills and help
organise the programme.
Ministry of Youth Development Funding
The Ministry of Youth Development is funding The Young New Zealanders’
Challenge as a national provider to deliver the “Challenge” to young
people involved in programmes throughout New Zealand funded by the
Ministry and other young people from the following target groups:
- Rangatahi youth through partnerships with Marae
- Pacific Youth
- Young people with disabilities
- Young people in the care of the State
- Young people from ethnic minorities or migrant refugees
The “Challenge” can be completed whilst on a Ministry funded programme
or through community organisations that are licensed to deliver the
programme. The programme includes service, a project and an
expedition. When all of these elements are completed to a set
assessment criteria the young person will receive the Bronze
Award. This is an internationally recognised award. Young
people may chose to go on to complete their silver and gold awards.
The “Challenge” gives young people a sense of pride, confidence and the desire to strive to do better. |
Trinity Youth of our Future Trust (known as Youth Quest)
Youth
Quest delivers a twelve week programme broken down into weekly
workshops teaching valuable life skills to the young person. The
first 2 weeks includes a residential bush camp designed to provide
positive physical and mental challenges. The programme promotes
positive peer connections, physical training and works with the
whanau/family to help make positive change.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports Youth Quests strength based program designed to deal
practically and effectively with youth at risk and recidivist offenders
over a full time 12 week program with a further 12 month follow up
support period upon completion. Youth Quest aims to reduce &
prevent youth offending in Kapiti.
