Services for young people
The Ministry of Youth Development funds community based services for young people throughout New Zealand. These services provide young people (12-24 year olds) opportunities to connect with their community, gain confidence and learn new skills.
They aim to ensure that young people are able to contribute to their
community and participate in education, training or employment.
Structured programmes include the Conservation Corps, Youth Services
Corps (that support young people to contribute to their communities)
and Specialist Youth Services Corps (programmes for young
offenders). The Ministry also funds youth workers, mentoring
programmes, and other local community based initiatives for often
vulnerable and at risk young people.

- rehabilitation programmes for young offenders, eg the Specialist
Youth Service Corps programmes or programmes accepting Youth Justice

- capability development across the sector, eg through support for
the National Youth Workers Network or for the Youth Mentoring Trust’s

How young people can participate in a service?
If you're keen to join a Ministry funded service there's a couple of things you need to know:
- there are no fees, unless the service is residential, (in which case you may qualify for an accommodation supplement)
- no minimum qualification is required to participate.
To sign up for a service you need to contact the provider directly. See
the links below to see the current Ministry funded services operating
in your area.
What's in it for young people?
The services provide young people with the opportunity to learn things
that will enhance their education options and further their career
prospects. See the links below to contact providers for
