Detailed below are Ministry funded services operating in the Bay of Plenty area.
Te Waiariki Purea Trust
Te
Waiariki Purea Trust plays an important role in the local community as
the provider of the Rotorua Youth Transition Service. They also
offer Cultural Journeys, holiday programmes for young people and whanau
events to bring young people and their parents/caregivers together.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports Te Waiariki Purea Trust to deliver one New Zealand
Conservation Corps programme. This programme has a strong outdoor
component to it. Young people experience a waka journey across
the lakes through the Te Arawa area, learning the local Maori
history. General life skills are also an important part of the
programme.

Te Whakawhiti o te Rangatahi
The
provider works with young gang members aiming to increase their
positive contribution to the community and assist them to develop work
ready skills. There is a strong localised conservation component
to the programme. The provider has been working closely with the
local authority to improve the stream banks, both to stabilise, and to
create areas for picnicking. In addition general life skills,
health and wellbeing, and the barriers that limit participation are a
focus in order to improve the chances of participants being able to
secure employment in the local area.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports Te Whakawhiti o te Rangatahi to deliver one New Zealand
Conservation Corps programme. The programme has a strong focus on
community and local conservation projects.

The Salvation Army Employment Plus - Whakatane
The
Salvation Army Employment Plus provides education, ongoing practical
care and support to assist the less advantaged achieve employment and
develop a career. The training programmes provide a range of quality
education and employment focussed initiatives, which aim to bring about
a sustained change in the lifestyle and attitude for the individual and
community.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports Salvation Army Employment Plus to deliver one
programme. Whakatane offers a programme to young people
that are a low to medium risk of poor education, training and
employment outcomes. The programme is a New Zealand Conservation
Corps programme and offers work experiences and general life
skills.
The provider is able to staircase young people onto other programmes or
training opportunities to progress and develop their skills for future
employment. It is an area that is developing and creating work
opportunities for young people.

The
Opotiki Learning Centre offer activities from ATV, fencing, small
motors, chainsaws and advanced first aid. They have a full range
of challenging recreational activities including kayaking, horse
trekking, high ropes, white-baiting and fishing. They also have
community, conservation and environmental projects.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports Opotiki Learning Centre 2004 to deliver one programme. This
programme offers a range of conservation, community opportunities and
outdoor activities. The provider is able to utilise other programmes to
staircase young people into further learning options in preparation for
employment opportunities.

E Tipu Rea Trust
E
Tipu Rea Trust is based at a Marae. Its programme engages young
people in work around the local area particularly in relation to
restoration of historic land sites. The programme includes
components of parenting skills, reducing family violence and personal
life skills. Work experience and challenging recreation is also
included in the programme.

The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund supports E Tipu E Rea Trust to deliver 2 programmes per year.
