The programmes run for 20 weeks and involve participants in coaching, refereeing, sports administration and sport events management.  Participants complete their Life Saving, First Aid and CPR Certificates.  Work experience occurs in their communities in swimming pools, YMCA’s and Youth Town. The TYLA Trust was founded by concerned New Zealanders and strives to give youth at high risk of offending the practical and emotional support they need to make the right choices in life to avoid the path of crime.

TYLA has achieved this by establishing a unique five year programme that supports children from the age of ten to sixteen. Our team of social workers and a police youth officer coordinate with the schools and community agencies to ensure a holistic individual plan meets the needs of the youth, their family and the district that they live in. Since TYLA was founded ten years ago over 150 youth have been through the programme.

Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Services for Young People Fund supports TYLA currently to assist two established programmes, in Otara and Avondale.
