NZ Business and Parliament Trust Essay Competition Winners

A presentation to the prize winner and two runners-up of the post-2016 Youth Parliament essay competition sponsored by The New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust took place on 10 November.

Youth Parliament MPs and the Youth Press Gallery members from 2016 Youth Parliament were invited to submit an entry on the topic "Why should young people become engaged in civic affairs and politics?"

The winners’ presentation was hosted by the Speaker of the House and President of the Trust, Rt Hon David Carter. Unfortunately, he could not attend on the day so Trustee, Peter Griffiths, attended in his stead.

The winner (prize $2,500) was Karan Kalsi, Youth Member of Parliament representing Hon David Cunliffe MP.

The first runner up (prize $2,000) was Stefan McLean, Youth Member of Parliament representing Brett Hudson MP.

The second runner up (prize $2,000) was Leah Bell, Youth Member of Parliament representing Barbara Kuriger MP.
