Youth2000 forum: The many faces of New Zealand young people
Central government policy makers, researchers, funders and service providers, all with an interest in youth health and well-being issues, came together for an MYD hosted Youth2000 forum on 8 November 2006.
The forum was an opportunity to understand the ways that the data have been analysed and to ask questions of the researchers
Youth2000 was the first national
survey of adolescent health and wellbeing in the country and was
conducted by the Adolescent Health Research Group at the University of
Auckland.
Results from this survey were discussed at the forum and provided
unique insights into the health and wellbeing of today’s youth. A
number of reports have been produced since the survey was undertaken
and span areas as diverse as community facilities for youth recreation
to acne and suicidal behaviour.
Youth'07
Planning is now underway for Youth’07, which will update this
data and provide trend data on youth behaviour throughout New Zealand.
At the forum, the attendees discussed how they can use the information in their day-to-day
work. This will help the researchers determine how to best disseminate
the Youth’07 results when they come out in 2008.
