The Changing Nature of the School-to-Work Transition in OECD Countries
On 16 October 2007, the Ministry of Youth Development hosted a seminar on 'the Changing Nature of the School-to-Work Transition in OECD Countries'.
The presenter was John P. Martin, Director for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs, OECD.
About the seminar John Martin’s seminar discussed the overall shape
of the school-to-work transition process and how it has evolved over
the past decade or more, as well as identifying emerging policy
issues/lessons, drawing on the ongoing OECD thematic review of the
school-to-work transition (in which New Zealand is participating) and
other research.
About the speaker
John P. Martin is Director for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs at
the OECD. His brief also covers OECD work on health and international
migration. After studying Economics at University College Dublin, John
Martin completed postgraduate studies at Nuffield College, Oxford,
where he then held a research fellowship, as well as lecturing in
economics at Merton College, Oxford and at the University of
Buckingham.
He joined the OECD in 1977 and has held several posts in
his current directorate and in the Economics Department. He also holds
numerous academic and advisory roles in the areas of labour and
international trade economics, globalisation and migration policy and
research, and has published extensively in these fields. John Martin
is an Irish citizen.
