An issue I feel strongly about:

Hi my name is Ashley Brown. I'm pleased to be representing Shane Jones and being chosen for Youth Parliament 2007 is a great opportunity and experience. And thank you to God.

I think it should be made harder to go straight on the dole at the age of 18 years old. I believe it should be made MANDATORY for a year for youth to:
1) Join the armed forces for a year
2) Bring back apprenticeships for youth
3) Further education (to get the qualificiations needed to get a job)
4) Education on life skills.

I believe we would have fewer people on the dole queues and more youth making something of their lives. They might end up liking that experience and may want to further that experience. Then they would have a future with hope and get paid for it. A percentage will drop out but a percentage will stay on and go on to contribute to our economy - not take away from it. It will also mean fewer gangs and drugs, and less violence on the streets.
