An issue I feel strongly about: Hi my name is Joel Brown, and I want to thank God first of all. I'm happy to be representing Dave Hereora. Being chosen for Youth Parliament 2007 is a great opportunity and experience. I'm passionate about the amount of taxes we have taken from us as young people compared to older generations. I don't think it's fair that we get taxed like adults. Especially if we have a part time job while we are still at school. We only get peanuts in the hand as it is, why tax youth on that? Then on top of that, if we get a second part time job so we can make a bit more money.....we get taxed again with ‘secondary tax’ that means we lose even more money from our pay than we did from our first job. If there is no incentive for young people to want to work, they will go straight out and line up for a government handout, if they think they can get a better deal on that. We need to lower (or cut) the taxes for young people who are still at school working; this will encourage them while they are young. Don't penalise youth, encourage them.
