An issue I feel strongly about:
A topic I am particularly interested is the problem of student debt in
New Zealand. I thoroughly support the student loan scheme. However,
students have
accumulated around $9 billion dollars in debt and the Government
predicts that student loan debt will reach $12.7 billion by 2014/15.
Students going into tertiary education are merely teenagers and do not
know the consequences of borrowing large sums of money that, although
interest free, will have an effect on their future. I believe we need
to be educated from a young age to save for tertiary education as I
think that eradicating the student loan scheme would be an unrealistic
solution.
