Global warming was the topic of legislative debate and the house was filled with hot air too.

Keith Locke made a dash from the public gallery after his MP, Katherine Steel, was expelled for five minutes after using a word that rhymes with duck.

It was a game of two halves as after lunch James Sleep, standing for Sue Bradford received a yellow card from the Speaker for behaviour.

The bill asked for households to have carbon credits in a bid to decrease the amount of greenhouse gases New Zealand produces.

Youth MP Johnny Crawford described the bill as a cattle beast.

“It has a point there, a point here, and a whole lot of bull in between,” he said.

Many MPs wanted recycling bins, as they believed the bill was a waste of paper.

Interestingly, the Green MPs registered their disapproval and abstained from the bill as an act of protest.

Jaz Morris, standing for Sue Kedgley said “The Green Party Youth MPs believe that half-hearted bills such as this amount to time wasting - a bill with a veneer of efficacy but no real substance.”
