National Youth Council Network
If you are on a youth council or something similar then the National Youth Council Network is for you!
The National Youth Council Network has been established to provide a
nationwide system of communication and support to youth councils across
New Zealand.
Many youth councillors have been talking about the need for youth
councils to network across the country, develop a national identity and
receive more support for their work in the communities.
It offers youth councils an excellent opportunity to:
- network nationwide with other youth councils
- develop a national identity and purpose
- tell government what young people think from their region
- showcase their youth council activities
- further develop their effectiveness as a decision making body.
Youth councillors will be able to access:
-
training in youth participation in decision making
-
practical advice and tips specific to youth council needs
-
online opportunities to network through discussion forums
- information on important youth issues and opportunities.
Over the past two years representatives from youth councils identified
three areas that youth councils needed help with. These youth
councillors wanted to learn from each other through networking across
the country, develop a national identity and receive more national
support for work in their communities. As a result, the National Youth
Council Network has been established.

Development of the Network
An elected steering committee of youth councillors from around New
Zealand will lead the development of the National Youth Council Network
in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development.
Once youth councils have signed up to the Network, youth councillors
will be able to vote through an online system for their national
steering committee. We will inform all youth council coordinators and individual youth
councillors about the election dates.
