Touch base with your Minister

The Minister of Youth Affairs, the Hon. Nanaia Mahuta wants to hear from you.

mahuta.jpgKia ora koutou and welcome to my homepage.

As your Minister of Youth Affairs, I want to make sure that your views and youth issues are taken into consideration when the government makes decisions which impact on young people. To help us make good decisions, we need good information, and that means we need to know what you think and feel about the things that affect you.

I believe it is important to promote opportunities and initiatives which support and strengthen young people.  The government's goal is to create a country where young people are happy, healthy, vibrant and optimistic about their future.  These goals are supported by the Ministry of Youth Development, who also have many opportunities and programmes available to encourage you to get involved.

One of the things I hear quite a lot from young people is that they don't want to get involved because they think no-one will listen to them – but this does not have to be the case!

One of the great things about living in a country like Aotearoa/New Zealand, is that everyone gets to have a say – which is not the case in some other countries. Every young person who is passionate about issues affecting them, or who has ideas to on how to make their community a better place to live, should get active and participate in decision-making, for example at their local school or council.  This website is great place to start if you need some ideas.

I'm keen to hear your ideas, questions or feedback on any youth topic or issue that is important to you. Tell me what you think through my email link
