What's involved in the workshop?
The Ministry launched the youth development participation guide, Keepin' It Real: A Resource for Involving Young People in May 2003 and then went on to develop the Keepin' it Real training workshop.

The workshops provide an interactive training that uses a variety of different activities to focus on:

  • what youth participation is
  • the benefits of effective youth participation
  • blocks and barriers to youth participation, and identifying solutions for overcoming these
  • examining some successful examples of youth participation
  • outlining key ethical, safety and quality issues for effective youth participation.
Participants develop an action plan for applying youth participation to their own work throughout the course of the training workshop.
