Detailed below is a description on the Ministry funded services operating in the Northland area:
Community Business & Environment Centre
The
Community Business & Environment Centre (CBEC) was formed in 1989
to stimulate local development by creating new business and employment
opportunities in the Far North that are environmentally sustainable.
CBEC wanted to create viable and environmentally sound locally owned
businesses by building an organisation that would explore and act on
opportunities which would strengthen the local economy.
Their vision is to be a leader in Community Enterprise Development,
facilitating social responsibility and/or a sustainable environment for
communities.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports CBEC to deliver one programme. The programme offers a
mix of conservation, environmental awareness and demonstrates recycling
within its broader programme content. General life skills and
challenging recreation are also included in the programme.
