Detailed below are Ministry funded services operating in the Canterbury (including South Canterbury) area.
South Canterbury YMCA
The
YMCA in South Canterbury operates in the Timaru and Ashburton regions.
Predominantly the activities for South Canterbury are education and
enterprise based. They have a dedicated focus on the youth in the
communities they operate in and are committed to delivering programmes
to all people most in need of assistance. The YMCA in South Canterbury
prides itself on delivery of high quality programmes.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports the South Canterbury YMCA to deliver one programme. This is a
New Zealand Conservation Corps programme. This programme offers
young people a varied programme to increase their skills and gain new
ones. The skill level is such that the majority of young people
exiting the programme are able to secure employment.

YMCA Christchurch
The
Christchurch YMCA is a charitable trust which was established in 1862.
Their core values are caring, respect, honesty and responsibility.
Through their programmes with people of all backgrounds, they work to
make a positive difference in people's lives and communities. The
YMCA also provides a range of other training and development programmes
with a focus on youth.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports the YMCA Christchurch to deliver one programme. This is a New
Zealand Conservation Corps programme. The programme, called
Adventure Conservation has a strong conservation and journey element to
it. The programme is for 16 to 24 year olds and aims to develop
resilient young people who gain positive outcomes as a result of their
participation.

Youth & Cultural Development Society
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports Youth & Cultural Development Society to deliver two
programmes.
One programme is a Specialist Youth Service Corps programme and is
specifically for young people entering the youth justice system. The
programme includes life skills, challenging recreation and community
projects.
The provider also delivers a Youth Service Corps programme which caters
for a mix of young people including those in the justice system.
Both programmes cater for individual and groups needs and outcomes.
Case management is an important part of the programme support.

Te Ora Hou Otautahi Inc
Te
Ora Hou is a network of faith-based youth and community development
organisations working with young people, their whanau and communities
in many places across Aotearoa.
Te Ora Hou has had projects in most of the main urban centres and many
provincial and rural communities as well. Hundreds of people connected
to Te Ora Hou have led many different projects and services working
with thousands of young people and families.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports Te Ora Hou Otautahi to deliver one programme. This is a Youth
Service Corps programme which engages young people in holiday and
evening programmes. They work with local colleges and identify
activities and opportunities that are able to positively engage young
people.
