Auckland
Detailed below are the Ministry funded services operating in the Auckland area.
SENZ Training & Employment Centre
SENZ
believe that every person has the ability to be successful and find
positive direction in his or her life. SENZ provides challenging,
exciting, and rewarding programmes that help develop specific skills
leading to employment, a tertiary education or further training.
Through training opportunities in sport, recreation, outdoor education
and teaching, SENZ makes a positive difference to our students' lives.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund
supports SENZ to deliver two programmes. The programmes are delivered
in South Auckland.
The programmes have a focus on sports opportunities including surf life
saving, sports referees, leadership, and sports administration. The
programmes run for 20 weeks and involve participants in coaching,
refereeing, sports administration and sport events management.
Participants complete their Life Saving, First Aid and CPR
Certificates. Work experience occurs in their communities in
swimming pools, YMCA’s and Youth Town. Young people also help in local
schools and at weekends refereeing sports activities.
The programmes aim to move young people into relevant sports education
or recreation opportunities through Polytechnic or University courses.

TYLA Trust
The
TYLA Trust was founded by concerned New Zealanders and strives to give
youth at high risk of offending the practical and emotional support
they need to make the right choices in life to avoid the path of crime.
TYLA has achieved this by establishing a unique five year programme
that supports children from the age of ten to sixteen. Our team of
social workers and a police youth officer coordinate with the schools
and community agencies to ensure a holistic individual plan meets the
needs of the youth, their family and the district that they live in.
Since TYLA was founded ten years ago over 150 youth have been through
the programme.
Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Services for Young People Fund supports TYLA currently to assist two established programmes, in Otara and Avondale.
