2006 UNCROC Forum: taking Stock of progress

On 15 August 2006 the Ministry of Youth Development brought together 13 government agencies, 30 senior officials, 65 NGO representatives and 17 young people to share in a forum on UNCROC.

The forum was a unique opportunity for those who work in the child/youth sector, or on issues relevant to children’s rights, to find out about Government initiatives, programmes and services aimed at improving the health, education and wellbeing of our children and young people.

One of the day's objectives was to provide a “health check” of the UNCROC work programme, to enable the Ministry of Youth Development to provide better quality information about UNCROC-related government activity in our annual reports to Cabinet and the 2008 periodic report to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Keynote addresses were given by Dr Cindy Kiro, Children’s Commissioner, Alison Blaiklock of Action for Children and Youth Aotearoa and the Hon Ruth Dyson.
