Rapua Te Huarahi Tika - Searching for Solutions (2000)
A review of research about effective interventions for reducing offending by indigenous and ethnic minority youth.
Rapua Te Huarahi Tika - Searching for Solutions is a review of research about effective interventions for reducing offending by indigenous and ethnic minority youth.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs commissioned this literature review to
find out what works to reduce offending by young people from indigenous
and ethnic minority backgrounds.
New Zealand, like the rest of the world, suffers from a gap in
knowledge about what works best for indigenous young people and those
from minority ethnic groups.
The big questions to answer are:
- Do current interventions actually work for indigenous and ethnic minority young people?
- Are there interventions that could work better?
Definite answers are not possible because of the lack of information.
There are also concerns that overseas research cannot be applied
wholesale to the New Zealand situation. However, this review of
research points out the most promising pathways to take in the future.
