This presentation by Youthline showcased some of their youth development research projects and summarise the findings of their most recent projects including:

  • Parenting teenagers: A review of best practice principles in New Zealand parenting programmes
  • Are we doing a good job? Providing evidence of the effectiveness of Youth One Stop Shops: The development of self-evaluation capacity and an evaluation framework
  • What would a health service for alternative education students look like?

 

Jayne also discussed the importance of community based research and how this research can work along side academic research. She will also talk about how community organisations can become more research focused and how to get young people involved in community based research.

Jayne manages Youthline’s Clinical Services department, including counselling services, the Alternative Education School and research. She began volunteering with Youthline in 2001 while completing a Bachelor of Communication Studies in Public Relations and Communication Management. Her involvement with Youthline led her along a parallel career path where she completed her Master of Health Science in Psychotherapy. Jayne is particularly passionate about youth advocacy and involving young people in research and policy making processes.

Youthline Chief Executive, Stephen Bell and members of Youthline's National Executive were at this seminar and were available to answer questions on how research and evaluation impacts on their service delivery effectiveness.
